Beach Ready Bodies

I’ve just read an article in an industry trade magazine that states that according to a recent survey, more than half of Beauty Salon Clients will opt for all-in-one swimwear over a bikini to hide their body woes, with 44% covering up with a sarong. It doesn’t name the source or how many participants were asked, but I sense those figures to be depressingly true if not, perhaps, a little on the low side. I know when I’m on a beach, I always have one eye out for well-meaning Greenpeace activists armed with damp sponges, overly concerned that having taken a wrong turn at a peninsula, I might have unwittingly sand-banked myself. Self-esteem does not come easy to us Brits.

Unsightly dimples, ‘orange-peel’ effect around the thighs and backside and silver lines caused by stretch marks are the main cause of this, and whilst neither condition is harmful to health, aesthetically they can be a real barrier to self-confidence amongst women. Poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle can be factors in why some people develop cellulite, but the stigma that it is a side effect of obesity is simply not true as it occurs as often in underweight people as not. The unfortunate fact is that 80-90% of women will get cellulite sometime after they reach puberty. Recent research has shown that cellulite is caused by inflammation in the skin, which over time, contributes to the breakdown of collagen, resulting in a reduction of the skin’s firmness and suppleness.

But good news, for as always, we have a cunning plan. Guinot have launched two new body treatments specifically targeting these areas; Techni-Slimming & Techni-Firming. With visible slimming and firming results from the very first treatments, using an in-depth massage combined with carefully formulated serums and a unique body wrap technique, these specially designed treatments reduce the appearance of cellulite and restore skin’s firmness. Techni-Slimming reduces the appearance of stubborn cellulite, refining the silhouette. This unique treatment combats the appearance of cellulite whilst inhibiting the formation of new fat in the targeted area. Techni-Firming, on the other hand, is designed to firm the body and tone the skin using key active ingredients to improve skin’s elasticity and fight against slackening. Treatment times are 1hr and cost £72.

We’re celebrating this launch by offering 10% off both treatments to Bystander readers throughout May*. To get beach-body ready please quote BYSTANDER when booking. For maximum results, Guinot recommend a course of 8. These treatments will undoubtedly improve skin tone and greatly reduce the appearance and density of cellulite, but it is important to remember the key to long-term results is lifestyle change. Improving eating habits, incorporating more vegetables and ensuring optimum hydration levels combined with regular exercise will enable lasting results. Will you dare to bare this Summer?
